ABOUT ME
In case you haven't already figured it out, Hi! My name's Devin (he/him) and I was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. The arts have always been a huge part of my identity for as long as I remember. Before I had ever touched an instrument, I remember being in 4th grade sitting at my older siblings' marching band rehearsals and thinking about how I had to get out on that field. So, as soon as I hit middle school, I dove into the world of music. I started by learning how to play the cello and with enough convincing, my parents let me learn percussion as well. Just a year later, I joined my high school's marching band (Marching Pride of Lawrence Township) and I was immediately in love. I will never forget the feeling of performing in Lucas Oil Stadium in Downtown Indy for the first time. From that moment on, I knew that I was going to perform for the rest of my life. Throughout high school, I only did band and orchestra (and I picked up a few new instruments as well such as: harp, piano, flute, saxophone, oboe, etc.), but one day after playing in the pit for The Addams Family, I was so frustrated that I couldn't see the all the action onstage. So, of course, what else could I do except audition for the spring musical myself? And that's exactly what I did!
I discovered the magic of live theatre for the first time in Shrek the musical and I. was. hooked. I auditioned for every show I could in high school, eventually leading me to audition for Indiana University's Musical Theatre program. Since joining the BFA program, I have grown so much as a person and as a performer. I truly believe that theatre has the power to change the world for the better and that is my biggest goal as an artist. That's why I love to perform, direct, and write my own plays and songs. Theatre is a vessel for change, whether big or small, so I'm always pushing to contribute to the arts in my community however I can. All in all, my goal is to spread my love and joy for performing to as many people as I can as a reminder that there is so much good to be put into the world and that anyone can make a big impact in peoples' lives, even if you're just from the vast cornfields of Indiana.
